Books and Meows

Books & Meows, located in Davenport, Iowa, was a nonprofit haven that uniquely combined a used bookstore with a cat lounge, fostering both literacy and feline adoptions. Founded by Nicole Puryear, a passionate advocate for animals and reading, this 501(c)(3) organization invited guests to relax, read, work, or play with adoptable cats from local rescues for a small donation that supported their care while they awaited forever homes. The space featured quiet work areas with free Wi-Fi, a casual sitting area, and a dedicated children’s room, welcoming students, professionals, and families alike. After operating for nearly a year and helping dozens of cats find homes, Books & Meows permanently closed on October 15, 2025, concluding its mission-driven effort to blend education, community, and animal welfare in the Quad Cities area.
